Design philosophy

Shapes born from "uncertainty"

We have visited various sites to consider landscape design, regardless of the scale of the site, from small houses to apartment buildings, nurseries, schools, art museums, cemeteries, factories, hospitals, station plazas, etc. By closely observing the backgrounds of the lives of people and living things, we propose "places" that are suitable for interacting with various environments, and we hope that "places" created in new forms will become an unprecedented opportunity to connect with the surrounding environment.

Old shrines and forests have vegetation that is familiar to the area, and you can learn about the DNA of that area. The project we are involved in is centered on the "Seed Project," where we research, collect, and raise seedlings of local vegetation together with local people, and we aim to grow and plant trees from seeds to create a landscape that is unique to that area.

After we have finished designing the place, we want to convey our wishes for the place to those who will nurture it. We are thinking about what we can do, such as drawing small pictures and making books, as clues to nurture the place after it has been built.

When creating spaces across a variety of scales, from 1/50,000 to 1/1, we value the warmth and texture of the materials when you actually touch them, and aim to create products that make use of the techniques of our artisans, paying attention to the changes that occur over time and the characteristics of the materials.
