Proposal of landscape as an element
An attempt was made to design the landscape not by shape, but by a combination of elements.
The site is unique in that it is surrounded by the Kamo River, which forms the backbone of Kyoto, and the railway, which is a major piece of infrastructure, and the Takase River runs into it. The idea was to develop a campus along the Takase River, and instead of the large-scale landscape seen in typical university campus plans, we came up with a plan for a small collection of buildings.
We sought to create a diverse space by developing different landscapes on each floor in harmony with the concept of the architecture, which is a collection of traditional townhouses.
As I walked through Kyoto from south to north, I noticed that although the river is a long, narrow space, a series of small landscapes are formed along it, and that the Takase River landscape is formed by an accumulation of these small landscapes.
By creating an image of a three-dimensional unfolding from the Takase River, the campus scenery, overlapping with the scenery of everyday life, was incorporated into the landscape.
